Newsweek is defending its decision to not inform readers that one of its reporters, Yuval Levin, was a bioethics adviser with the George W. Bush Administration. Since President Barrack Obama took office, Levin has been writing for the magazine.

| In the September 14, 2009 issue of Newsweek, readers saw a dramatically altered version of an image taken by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist David Hume Kennerly. The published, Newsweek version (on right) cropped out former Vice President Dick Cheney's family, focusing instead on Cheney wielding a knife at a cutting board. Kennerly wrote an essay expressing his displeasure with the Newsweek editors who cropped the image to convey a menacing meaning not communicated in the unedited, original photo. On September 17, 2009, the New York Times photography, video, and visual journalism blog, Lens, published an essay by the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist David Hume Kennerly. In the essay, Kennerly takes issue with the way his photograph was cropped for an article in the September 14, 2009 issue of Newsweek. He felt the editing was so extreme as to distort the meaning and context of the image.
