The Associated Press reported on an unfortunate run in between a wild deer and lion at The National Zoo in Washington, D.C. on November 9. The story, picked up by the New York Post, carries the headline “Video: Lions kill baby deer as DC zoo visitors watch.”
But in fact, as ABC News notes in their report "Deer escapes lion attack", the deer was not killed while zoo visitors watched some bloody ripping-apart. It’s not even clear whether the...Go to full story

| How some Journalists find their Stories |

| Miss Heather, who runs the blog NewYorkShitty.com, has seen many of her blog posts regenerated as mainstream media articles without being credited for her work.

Last week, we wrote about the New York Post poaching a story from a blog called NewYorkShitty.com and not crediting the blog writer, named Miss Heather, for her scoop.
We spoke with Miss Heather about the Post's statement regarding their crediting policy, "THE NY POST CREDITS BLOGS, BLOGGERS AND OTHER MEDIA ALL THE TIME, AS OUR READERS KNOW” (emphasis theirs). She said, "That may be their practice on paper, but that's not their statement in reality."

NY Post Reporter to Blogger: "Post policy prevented me from crediting you"

A New York Post reporter made an astonishing admission to a blogger when confronted for not crediting NewYorkShitty.com's scoop. The Post journalist blamed his employer's "policy" for not sourcing bloggers as the cause of the plagiarism. See illustration of the reporter's comment first seen by Miss Heather in an email notification that she later posted. |

What happens when a reporter working for a traditional news media publication finds a story on a blog? Does he or she attribute the story to the blogger? For writers working at The New York Post, it seems not.
It's not unusual to hear old school/traditional/established/PAID reporters complaining that bloggers profit from their work.
The trope goes something like, "We do all the time-consuming, shoe-leather reporting, then bloggers reap the benefit of site hits by using...Go to full story

NY Post's Potty Humor Given Greater Import than Accuracy:
|
| Is the Public Trust Flushed? |

| Pictured above is the Downstate Correctional Center in Fishkill, New York. The New York Post mistakenly wrote that the prison that housed the inmate, Darryl Littlejohn, was in Westchester, New York, 62 miles away from the actual location. Was The Post more eager to report the sensational story of Littlejohns fears of food contamination...than getting the basic facts right? |
|

|
Apparently, The New York Post was more concerned about catchy consonance captions than accurately reporting the facts in a recent article. All in caps, the headline blasted: "" FIEND'S FECAL FEAST FEARS: BOUNCER WHO KIDNAPPED, RAPED & KILLED NY STUDENT 'AFRAID' OF TAINTED PRISON FOOD."
The article published February 18 by The Post features convicted double murderer Darryl Littlejohn's fears of fecal poisoning while living “at the...Go to full story

Is the NY Post Showing their Bias?
|
| Or just pesimistic about Caroline Kennedy? |
| by Danielle Elliot, StinkyJournalism.org |

 |
| NY Post cherry-picked a negative comment
for its headline even though the NY Governor made sure he suggested both positive and negative points about Caroline Kennedy's qualifications. The accurate headline would have stated that the Governor said Kennedy was "a plus and a minus." |

The New York Post reported on January 9 that the NY State governor cited both positives and negative traits about Caroline Kennedy as a possible replacement for Senator Clinton. Yet they featured only the negative remark in the story's headline. Is this an opinion piece disguised as news? The headline also gives the false impression that the the Post has an inside track--that Gov. Patterson's leanings are negative.
The headline on page 2 was...Go to full story
