Heroic-Size Woman Does Housework
Sculpture by the author, Rhonda Roland Shearer, whose “Woman’s Work” series observed that – of the hundreds of monuments throughout New York City – only three are of women: Gertrude Stein, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Joan of Arc. Shearer argues that subjects of monuments in society map what society values and leaves invisible what it devalues.
